BOWLING.
OPENING OF TE AROHA GREEN.
The Te Aroha bowling green was formally opened fot play on New Year's Day. Bowlers were present from; the Thames, Cambridge, Auckland, Gisborne, New Plymouth and Wellington, most of the town clubs being represented. Tbe green was in excelieat order, but the rain somewhat marred the afternoon's pleasure. Before bowling began, the Mayor or Te Aroha (Mr Jas. Mills) welcomed the visitors to the town, and the president of the Te Aroha BowHng Club (Mr F. Pavitt) having also spoken a few words of wel« come, threw the jack and declared the green open. '
A match was then played, Mayor's Team v. President's Team, the latter winning by the narrow margin of three points. The scores were as follows, the first named players in each, case belonging to the President's Team, those named second to the Mayor's:—
