LYTTELTON REGATTA.

LYTTELTOJST, Thursday.

The Lyttelton Regatta took place to-day in splendid weather, with a fresh sea-breeze. The attendance was very large. There were 14,000 passengers booked for Lyttelton at Christchureh alone up to four p.m. Five vessels competed in the coasting schooners' race, and the Amelia Sims won by 14$ minutes from the Ronga, with Jessie Nicoll third. In the flrstclass yacht race Kiaora beat Waitangi by 13 minutes 11 seconds, including llm 4s handicap. In the third-class yacht race Waterwitch was first, Bettina second, and Pakeha third. Lieutenant Stewart's boat (H.M.s. Archer) won the' open boats' sailing race. The second-class yacht race fell through. The following are the results of the rowing races:— Youths' Pairs: Union 1, Canterbury 2, Akaroa 3. Ships' Boats , Race: Cupica 1, Rotomahana 2. Senior Double Sculls: Christchureh Amateur Club 1, Akaroa 2. Youths , Double Scull-*: Canterbury 1, Union 2, Akaroa 3. Junior Double Sculls: Union 1, Akaroa 2 and 3. Maiden Double Sculls: Union 1, Avon 2, Union 3. Single Sculls: Crosbie (Christchureh Amateur Club) 1, Woodhill (Akaroa) 2. Youths' Single Sculls: Deighton (Avon) 1, Little (Canterbury) 2. Webb (Union) 3. Man-o'-war Boat Race: H.M.s. Archer 1. The Lyttelton Rowing Club did not enter for any of the races. The submarine explosion was very successful, an old steamer r.he Jane) being blown up with 50°«> of guneotton. Swimming races and shore sports were also held.
