' • O James Arthur Hill pleaded guilty to breaking and entering- at Pirongia on the 16th lay of Augnst, and also on the 19th, with intent to commit crime. Mr J. A. l*ole appeared for the Crown. His Honor (commented upon the fact that a strong young man, only 20 years of age, should have within the last twelve months been convicted six times. He supposed drink was the cause. As short sentences appeared useless he sentenced the prisoner to 12 months' imprisonment. Edward Bichard black pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the premises of C. A. Holloway on the 28th of September. His Honor said prisoner was only sentenced a few days ago on two charges >to which ne had pleaded guilty* He would sentence him to two years' imprisonment, the same as in the other cases. Theft.—Charles Arthur fcanderton pleaded guilty to theft at Onehnnga, on the 25th of August, and at Auckland, on the 22n2d of Aiigust. His Honor remarked that prisoner from his writfen statement seemed a Fairly well educated man, who therefore ought not to be committing crime. He was now undergoing two years* imprisonment. For each of the present offences prisoner was sentenced to one year's imprisonment, to commence at the expiration of the sentences he was at present undergoing. William Eoozein pleaded guilty to stealing a coat and a rug at Auckland on the 27th oi October, and on the 2Sth, a pair of trousers. Sentence was deferred until to-morrow to enable prisoner to call evidence as to previous good chSra«t6r. H<s said It wits his first orffcnecui and he was under the iftftflflnM fof drink at the time.
