The "Chronicle" says the broad grounds on which Mr Chamberlain upholds the Commonwealth Parliament on the kanaka question imply that-the self-governing colonies are practically independent of the Motherland in everything except defence.
The "Standard" says the real difficulty is that there is no excuse for Queensland's secession.
