DUNEDIN, Wednesday
At the Supreme Court the first of what are . known as .the South Punedin assault eases was finished today, when the .jury found Eobert Phlmester James Geddes, Alexander McDonald, and John Willis, guilty of assault with intent to rob. They returned a verdict of not guilty in the case against Sparrow. Sentence was deferred.

The arrivals in the .colony during July numbered 1538, and the departures 1314, against 2185 and 1271,.respectively, in July 1901
Mr. J. R. Blair has been re-elected chairman of the Wellington Education Board.

Mr. Allsworth was elected chairman of the Education Board to-day, vice Mr. MeAllum, resigned.
CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday,
In almost all the cases of trespass ag-ainst bookmakers in connection with the Grand National Meeting- considered before Justices at the HagiS<tratc's Court to-day, there were convictions on those charges, 'ihe accused being fined 40/ and costs. A number were also fined for rema&ang on the trotting club's grounds v*ben warned off. About 40 charges ha^d bee,n laid . against bookmakers for breaches of the Gaming- and Lotteries Act. "It was alleged that they Jiad stands on the course, on which tihey placed their coats while betting, and it will be arg-ued for the prosexmtrion that these stands come within the meaning of a"public place" mentioned in that Act.
