THE FEDERAL CUSTOMS
MELBOURNE, \ugust 27.
Owing to dissatisfaction with the Customs administration, principally in regard to the fixing of a standard quality of tea. Sir M. D. McEachern made a strong attack or, Mr. Kingston in the Federal House. He declared that if the Minister's defence was that he was administering the law. then theve.was too much law and not enough common sense. He announced that unless a change occurred in the administration of Customs he would no longer support the Government, and would vote for any want-of-confidence motion brought down.
Mr. Kingston declared his action was determined by a desire to protect a large majority of honest importers against an unscrupulous minority. The members of the Federal Senate decided to adhere to their reduction in the butter and cheese duties.
