HARD TIMES IN SOUTH
AFRICA
(Bty Telegraph.—Press Association.

.-'■\ (Received 10.10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. A Victorian member of the South African Constabulary in a letter says there is a rush of people to South Africa.
He states' that, there will be most awful misery there in a few months' time.
Wages are sound and high, but the cost of living is five times aft much as it is in Australia.
In conclusion^ he says: —"How can a burnt-out wrecked country, desolated by a three years' war, support a large population."
