HUNTLY.

The Huntly Musical Society made its debut on Friday night at a concert held in the Volunteer pall, which was finely decorated for the occasion. Though the existence of the society has been brief, •he training of the members has been" thorough, for which the conductor, Mr R. Skellern, deserves the highest commendation. The orchestral pieces were distinctly good. Solos were well rendered by Misses Greenacre, Harris, Troughear, B. Skellern, Reid, Soppet, and by Messrs Wilson, Rainger, G. Ward, and Starr, Messrs C. Skellern and Greenacre being responsible for the comic element, while the rendition of the duet "Ora Pro Nobis" by Miss Troughear and Mr Rainger was excellent. The accompaniments were played by Misses Johnston and Soppet and by Mr Frazer. The concert was followed by an enjoyable dance.

On Thursday evening the Huntly Rifles met at Ngaruawahia for company inspection. The parade was under Captain Elliot and Sergeant-major Hoar from the Brigade Office. Under tbe latter some good work was done, his care, patience, and courtesy evoking the encomiums of the recruits. The Huntly men were taken by Lieutenant Wilson. The services as a drill of Corp. Rayner were taken advantage of, and proved most useful. The company, which numbers 96, •will be inspected on the evening of the 16th by General Babington, when a full muster is anticipated. A fine of a pound will be imposed on every absentee.
