THE LADY ROBERTS.
The submarine mining steamer, Lady Roberts, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. The vessel will be stationed at the North Shore, and will be engaged in the local harbour defences. She replaces the steamer Nile, which has been transferred to Wellington. The steamer left Wellington on Wednesday afternoon last, and met with a strong gale from the north-east, which continued until passing the East Cape on Saturday, when strong head winds and seas prevailed, lasting until arrival. The Lady Roberts is a smart-looking vessel, and is of th* latest service pattern.She is fitted with powerful steam lifting appliances and electric lighting machinery, and her engines (320 horse-power) develop a speed of 10h knots per hour. Her tonnage and dimensions are 37 tons, 95ft long. ISft in breadth and 9ft 3in deep.
