AKARANA RIFLE CLUB V. VICTORIA RIFLES.
On Saturday afternoon teams from the Akarana Rifle Club and the Victoria Rifles fired a friendly match at the Avondale range. Teams consisted of 12 men.aside, and only civilian members of the club were eligible to fire. The ranges were 500 yds, 600 yds, and 300 yds, fired in that order, five shots and one sighter at each. The light was very trying, and the weather not at all conducive to good shooting- At the finish of the first range (500 yds) the home club had a slight lead, having scored 257 points to the visitors' 252. For the home team Mr Doughty made the possible of 25; Messrs J. J. Buchanan and Greenshields put up 24 each; and Messrs E. Buchanan, J. Adams, J. C. Buchanan, and Jenkins compiled 23 each. POr the Victoria Rifles Privates Carlsen and T. Kerr made 24 each; vLieut. Cox and.Private Tobin 23 each; and Captain Skinner 22. At the 600 yds the club's aggregate was 476, while tbe Victorias had made 4oS. At this range Messrs Doughty and Pollard put up 22 each, and Mr J, D. Webster 21. For the Victorias Lieut. Cox and Private Carlsen secured 21 each, and Private Tobin 20.
At the concluding range the Rifle Club finished with a total of 708 points, winning the match by 41 points, the Victorias having made an aggregate of 667. At this range Messrs J. D. Webster and J. J. Buchanan put up 23 each, and Mr E. Buchanan 21 for the club: and Captain Skinner and Private Carlsen 21 each, and Col-our-sergeant Aylett and Private Kerr 20 each. Private Carlsen and Mr J. D. Webster made the highest aggregate scores with 66 points each, Mr H. Doughty coming second with 65 points. The scores and totals for each team are as follow:—
