OPENING OF THE SEASON.
GRAFTON WINS THE TOURNAMENT.
The fourth season of la crosse in New Zealana was opened last Saturday afternoon on the Domain. Cricket Ground, under the auspices of the New Zealand La Crosse Association. The conditions were favourable, and there was a good muster of the public. For. the tournament six teams entered. The Grafton team were the favourites, and after several close contests came through the ordeal without a loss and won the event. Ponsonby and North Shore tied for second place. The nature of the play during the afternoon was much below the usual standard, but this defect may be due to the fact that there were a large number of recruits in the ranks of the various teams, who have not yet grasped the finer points of the game. Thanks to Mr Yates, the field was in capital order. The referees, Messrs Noton and Broughton, gave general satisfaction.
