NORTH SHORE V. CITY.

(City 10 points, North Shore 3.)

A large number of people journeyed across the water to see the City Club try conclusions with the Shore team on the 'Domain ground. Cunningham, for City, set the ball in motion, and for fully five minutes play remained near Shore's 25 line. From a scramble Asher secured and passed to Magee, who transferred to Stevens, the latter being thrown out of bounds near the corner flag. The Shore forwards beat their opponents on the line out, and headed by McCluskey and Wynyard carried play into neutral ground. Shore were here penalised, but Cunningham's shot at goal fell short. From a scrum inside Shore's 25 and in front of the goal posts Young obtained possession, and after a short dash passed to Magee, who transferred to Stevens, and the latter to Asher, who made a brilliant run along the boundary line and scored. Cunningham failed to convert. City, 3; Shore, nil. Tbe City vanguard now made vigorous onslaughts on the Shore territory, but the latter showed a sound defence and beat off the town team's attack in fine style. Wynyard got away with the ball at his feet from a scrum, and being well supported carried the ball down the field. The local team's attack, however, was beaten back, and at half-time both teams were fighting a very even battle in mid-field.

Throughout the second spell City had the upper hand, and Shore rarely looked dangerous. Asher marked in a good position, and Cunningham was successful in increasing the score. City, 7; Shore, nil. The Shore forwards pressed from the kick-off, and Wynyard, coming away with a- fine dribble, passed all except Donovan, the opposing full, who snapped up and kicked the oval out at the 25 flag. By' good passing and the judicious use of the touch-line City were enabled to carry play down the field, and from a scrum Toung got possession and looked ">e scoring, but was grassed by Robjh wi *\' three yards of the line. Young snapp-*! the ball from the feet of the Shore forwards and passed to Tyler, who transferred to Stevens, and the latter crossed the line and scored. Cunningham failed to convert. City. 10: North Shore.O. After the kick-off McCluskey secured and went through the whole City team, but Ash'er coming up from behind stopped him in the nick of time. From the line-out Gerrard secured and threw himself over the line near the corner flag, drawing first ■blood for the Shore. He failed to convert. Without further incident the game ended. City having scored 10 points against Shore's 3.
