Metpter, who has been superintending the installation of the-electric light for Brush Electrical Engineering- Cp' r was entertained at a smoke concert'held "» the Assembly Hail; Drtffr-to his departure from Rotorua. Captain McDonald, of the Hot Lakes Steam Navigation Co., ably presided, assisted by Mr Spencer, various toasts were honoured, interspersed with musical items and recitations, and many kindly speeches were made concerning- Mr Fletcher *md his work and sojourn in Rotorua.
Mr E. Robertson, who has been intimately connected with RotOrua for the last 20 years, was made the recipient of a very handsome gold watch on Saturday xast. 4.bout 20 years ago Mr Robertson started a small coaching-business Detween Tauranga and Kotorua, and by dint of enterprise and hard work raised U to its present large 'bus, mail, and. coaching service, plying throughout the whoie of the thermal district. Recently, health compelled Mr Robertson to give up business, and he sold out to a Waikato firm, Messrs Carr and Watkin. In order to show sympathy with their late head, the employees of Messrs E. Robertson and Co. subscribed for a fitring; presentation, and called a meeting to make the same. A very large number of friends and employees were present, and Mr Robertson, a* modest and retiring man, was with difficulty persuaded to attend. Captain Turner occupied the chair, and briefly stated the reason for the meeting. Mr Melville, who for years has been manager of the firm, read an. address expressing the sympathy ot W employees and Mr Robertson's personal, friends for his ill-health, and trusting^; spe him again benefited by a change, or climate. This address contained some. Sv signatures. Mr Robertson was then presented with the gold watch, a very valuable timepiece containing his initials or. the case, and this inscription lnsiae:"Presented to Hdwin Robertson by »s employees and Kotorua friends on Wsf*; tiring from business, February 2S, lw* Mr Robertson feelingly replied. . -■'
