GREY LYNN BOROUGH.

No other nomination having been received by noon to-day, Mr E. T. Warnock was declared as duly returned unopposed for a second term as Mayor of the Borough of Grey Lynn. Mr Warnock attended at the Council Chambers at noon tq-day, and in returning thanks said: —"I desire to thank the burgesses of Grey Lynn for the great honour they have clone me in again electing me as Mayor of this important and progressive borough. I think I may say without egotism on my part that the position i occupy to-day is a unique one. I have been elected 25 or 26 times to Board and Council, IS£ years of that time I have had the honour of presiding as your Chairman and 'Mayor. When you did me the honour of electing me as your Mayor one year ago, I had great hopes that the public works then foreshadowed and in progress woiild have been completed by this time, this would have enabled me to place my resignation in the hands of the ratepayers, whom I have served to the best of my ability for so many years. But the continued increase of population in Surrey Hills demanded an enlarged drainage scheme, certain delays in obtaining the necessary loans, water extensions, and the laying of the tramways on boundary roads, leaves the Council witJ. a very large programme of works still to be completed; you were good enough to overlook my various shortcomings, and express confidence in my _ actions during the past year, and intimated that my having taken the initiative in drainage and other important public works, I ought to remain in office another year and assist the Council in successfully completing them. My own inclination, and perhaps duty to my own business and family, pointed to my retiring from all public positions. Hut I have always made my duty subservient to that of the ratepayers, and if 1 am spared health during this year of office, I will willingly assist the Council to the best of my ability in carrying out necessary " reforms and improvements in this progressive borough of Grey Lvmi.
