Our Hamilton correspondent wire* that Mr R. W. Dyer, being the only one nominated for the office of Mayor of the borough, to-day was declared duly elected.

This morning- Eobert Ternahan, the popular proprietor of the Hibernian Hotel, Onehunga, passed away after a brief illness of four or five weeks. Deceased was a married man, and leaves five daughters and one grandchild to mourn their loss. About 40 years ago Mr Ternahan, who is a native of Ireland, came to .the colony, and was for a tinie connected -with the local detective office. He has been an hotel proprietor, both at Auckland and Onehunga, for upwards of 27 years, and has created a large circle of friends. Many settlers in the vicinity of Onehunga especially will miss his timely aid in misfortune, As an officer of th.B peace he earned for himself univejw sal respect. While doing his duty, faithfully, he saved many a person fro m the degradation of being Bu * in gaol.
