There was evidence that Clarke had tried to bleed his horse with the intention of drinking its blood. The constable reported that Clarke's body had probably been covered by drift sand. In the other case, a shoemaker, aged about 50, whose name is unknoAvn, and who was doing odd jobs on his way up the route to Bii-dsville, in Queensland, was found alongside his swag on Goyder's La-o-oon. The ladies .went for assistance, but the man was. dead when they returned. The letters HM conjoined were scratched on his quart pot.
