THE BAND CONTEST.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l notice in your issue of April 2nd a correspondent, Eugene Hulse, 8.M., etc., deliberately states that the figures of my letter, which appeared in your Monday evening's "Star," contain marks gained for clean faces, clean boots, clean instruments, and the appearance of the individual bandsmen. 1 was not aware that the two former and latter were judged at all. At any rate, I strongly deny that the said figures include anything but points for music and' music only, so that if your correspondent and readers wish to know how many points were awarded to the three first bands for music if they will read my letter which appeared in last Monday's issue they will get them there. It will then be seen that Lieutenant Herd, or the Wellington Garrison Band, have no claim to the championship, as they were beaten by Wanganui by 5 points in music and music only. " As I did not in my first letter give the points gained for marching, drill, etc., I will give them now—Wanganui Band, 8!); Wellington Band, 70; Kaikorai, 66. The points for music in the quickstep I gave before.—l am, etc., ' W. C. C.
