On Saturday night the premises of Mr A. Phillips, bookmaker, in Wellesley street, were visited by a burglar or burglars, and £40 and a gold watch taken therefrom. About tha same time the residence of another boolcnaaker was visited, but the'furious barking Of a neighbour's dog alarmed the inmates of the house, and whoever the intruder or intruders happened to be decamped. Amongst the passengers leaving by the steamer Waikare for Sydney this evening are large numbers of tourist parties who have been visiting the thermal springs and other districts around Auckland. Included in the number are Mr. and the two Misses Rinsella, and the Rev. Thomas Roalston, who is en route for Ireland. The reverend gentleman has toured the colony, and is now returning Home by way of Suez. At his own cost he has purchased a number of lantern and photographic slides, and has applied to the Government through the local tourist agency for a further instalment, as it is his intention to advertise the scenic and other attractions of the colony by giving lectures with the aid of limelight effects in the North of Ireland, where his parish is situated. All the returning tourists speak in glowing terms of the beauties of Maoriland and the wonders of the thermal district. Yesterday afternoon a man named John Smith was admitted to the Hospital. In the morning a man communicated with the police ' and informed them that his mate was very ill in Lome-street. He was referred to Mr Strathern (Relieving Officer), who again referred him to Dr. Hooper.
