HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Hamilton Borough Council met on Wednesday eveningl. On the motion of the Mayor a- special rate of 9d in the £ on.the annual yftlue over the portion of the Borough known as the' water area was struck, and a special meeting will be held on March 31 to confirm it. At the ordinary meeting held -afterwards a letter was read from Mr W. J. Hunter, auctioneer, asking that the sale- ~ yards should be enlarged, as the accommodation for stock was inadequate. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Waikato auctioneers askin gthem to hold conjointly fortnightly sales in Hamilton, inst,ead of monthly sales as at present, as a means of getting over the difficulty.

The Legal and Finance Committee recommended that the question of the disposal of uightsoil should be left over until receipt of the by-laws from Mr Cotter; also that in view of the loan for tha water supply having been provisionally, authorised, Mr Metcalfe be asked to take all steps for drawing plans and specifications of the proposed works and also his terms for supervising the contract.

The overdraft at date, when accounts are paid, amounts to £887 3/11.
