AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.

SCHOLARSHIP S UCCESSES.

A SPLENDID RECORD

The cabled results of the recent University examinations, which reached Auckland students last week, show that the record of the Auckland University College in these examinations has been a most brilliant one. News has already been received of the success of Mr. M. A. Hunter in winning- the Exhibition science scholarship, and we are now informed that no less than five senior scholarships have been won by students of our local college. These senior scholarships are competed for by students sitting for the second section of the B.A. or B.Sc. degrees, and are open to the whole colony, one being given in each subject. The five scholarships have been gained by F. Sinclaire (Latin), L. V. Halliwell (2), mathematics and chemistry; G-.'B. Stephenson (botany), and F. C. Long (political science). Each scholarship is of the value of £50. This brilliant record makes last year the roost successful in the annals of the University College. Of the other two scholarships one was gained by a Wellington and the other by a Dunedin student.

In addition to these successes Mr. P. S. Ardern has carried off the Tinline scholarship (English). Mr. Ardern has the distinction of being the first student of the AucKland University to win the Tinline scholarship. 'Messrs. Ardern. Sinclaire, Halliwell and Stephenson gained junior University scholarships from the Auckland Grammar School in 1898. " -
