SAILING ItACES.

[ The JParnell Sailing Club's third and final series of races were held on Saturday afternoon. Three events were contested, and interesting- races resulted. The yacht Thelma was flagship, and Messrs. Jervis, E. Kilfoyle, and L. Lewis conducted the arrangements. The 26-footerS'. handicap race brought out two contestants, the Kotiro (4m.), and Waitangi (9m.) The Pastime (scr.) did not start. The course was from the mark off Judge's Bay, thence round mark off Hobs'on's Bay, thence round first' buoy in Rangitoto Channel, thence round red buoy off Logan Bros.' yards, finishing off the flagship; twice - round. Waitangi got the best of the start, but out in the channel Kotirio caught and passed her. From this to the finish Kotiro increased her lead. The finishing times were: Kotiro, 5h lm 34 sec; Waitangi, 5h 6ni 3s: Waitangi therefore takes first prize. For the 22-footers' race, the Welcome Jack, (scr), Merlin (2m), and Mercia (9m) started. Welcome Jack soon took the lead and finished first. The finishing times were: Welcome Jack, 4h 37m 20s; Merlin, 4h 39m 38s; Mercia, 4h 50m. The patiki race brought out four competitors-^Rambl'er (scr), Kangaroo, Eka and Tuna (om). Tuna led for a while, but Rambler displaced her, and led thence to the finish: The finishing- times were: Rambler 4h 27m ss; Tuna, 4h '28m 9s; Kangaroo, 4h 31m 7s; Eka, 4h 31m 40s. A model yacht race Avas hpld and was won by the May, with Tuttey second.

The North Shore Yacht Club's third series of races were held on Saturday. Mr John Alexander and Mr Biddell were the officers in charge. Speedwell and Matua were the only contestants in the 26-footers' (linear, rating) race, over a course of fourteen miles. Speedwell soon got well ahead, and Matua after, the first round retired from the race, Speedwell finishing- alone. In the 25ft l.w.L race Tang-aroa (scr), Of a (6m), Irish Lily (7m) and Mavis (Urn) started, Mavis and Tangaroa had a very exciting contest, Mavis finishing first. The finishing times were: Mavis, 5h sm; Tangaroa, 5h 5m 3s; Of a, 5h 7m 355; Irish Lily, 5h sm. Clarice was the only starter in the 20-footers' race and sailed over the course alone. For the race for yachts not exceeding 25i% overall, or 25ft waterline, the entries and handicaps were: Kotare (scr), Icarus (15m), Sheliah (15m), Colleen, (15m), Norma Belle (10m), Asta (20in), Moa (20m). The finish was: Asta, 4h 9m; Moa, 4h 16m; Norma Belle, 4h 16m 30s; Colleen, 4h 36m 10s; Sheliah, 4h 37m 555; Icarus, 4h 38m 5Ss; Kotare, 4h 50m ss. The three first named boats crossed the starting line in advance of their times and were disqualified.

KOWESTG EACES. The West End and St. George's Rowing- Clubs each held trial fours races on Saturday afternoon. At West End eleven crews competed. Four heats were rowed, and then a final, and all the events were very keenly contested. The trophies competed for were handsome goldcentred medals, presented by Professor Carrollo, who also g-ave a set of prizes to the second crew. In the iinal crews stroked by W. Conway, D. Manna, G. O. Stephenson and J. Bigelow started. The race was won by Stephenson's crew by just about 18 inches from Bigelow's four, after a splendid struggle, Hanna's crew third. The winning crew consisted of G. O. Stephenson, It. Noton, J. Hickson, H. English. The West End's next trials will take place on Saturday, March 8, and another set on March 22.

In St. George's Rowing Club's trial fours on Saturday eight crews competed. There was a large attendance of spectators, who were greatly pleased with the afternoon's racing. The final race was won by a crew consisting of Busby (stroke), J. O'Sullivan, Cooper, Power and Thornes (cox). The second crew was stroked by Richards. Tub races were also held, and created much amusement, Harper coming out the 'winner. Trophies were presented to the winning crew in the trial fours by Mr. W. S. Whitley, vice-president. The Auckland Rowing Club held pair-oar races on Saturday afternoon for trophies presented by Mr. H. E. Partridge. Six heats were contested, and then a final, which was won after a very keen race by J. Diamond (bow) and 11. McKnig-ht (stroke).
