WAIHI NEWS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WAIHI, this day, FIRE.

A fire occurred last evening at 7.30 in a stable situated in a paddock at the back of the main street, near the Wesleyan Church. After the fire bells gave the alarm the brigade were quickly on the spot, but they had some difficulty in connecting with the fire plug. Had not the night been so calm the results might have proved serious to other buildmgrs. The stable was unoccupied at the time, but had, recently been used for housing a racehorse. It appears the fire originated from a heap of straw in a corner. The affair caused some excitement among the people in the clnirches. ACCIDENTS. A miner named Ritchie, working in the Waihi mine, met with a slight accident on Saturday through falling down a ladderway. Dr. Guinness attended, but found no injury. Dr. Guinness further reports that McGregor, a jockey, had a rib broken and another bent, but otherwise was not seriously injured. His horse struck a hurdle heavily, throwing th<, jockey, who landed on his head. The horse finished without its rider.
