ODDFELLOWS' SERVICE

Upwards of 200 Oddfellows, headed by the Karangahake Brass Band, marched to St. Matthew's Church, Hobson-street, yesterday morning, when a special service was held by the vicar, the Rev. W. E. Gillam, who is a member of the order of Oddfellows. Mr Gillam preached a sermon on the duties and objects of friendly societies, basing his remarks on Micah viii., 4. The preacher advocated that as there was a text book ot: temperance in our schools ho there should also be a text book on mutual thrift, There was a large congregation in addition to the Oddfellows, and special hymns were used appropriate to the occasion.
