VITAL STATISTICS.

The total births in the four principal boroughs amounted to 388 against 425 in November, a decrease of 37. Deaths in December were 156. a decrease of 43 on the number in November. Of the total deaths males contributed 89, and females 67. Thirty-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 21.79 per cent, of the whole number; 20 of these were under one year or age. There were 4S deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards.
