CHAMPIONSHIP ROWING REGATTA.

WELLINGTON, Saturday. The ■championship rowing regatta was held to-day at Petone in smooth water. The races were generally interesting-, and. the somewhat unexpected win of the ■Kawatiri crew in the champion fours wns received with hearty applause. The winners hail from Westport. MeGrath had another easy victory in the champion sculls. The following are the results:—

Champion Sculls Amateur Plowing Championship of New Zealand, first prize £10 and the Pearee trophy (to be held for one year), distance one mile and a-half: J. F; McGrath (Otago Rowing Club). 1; T. Spencer (Wellington Rowing Club), 2; C. Poll (Petone Rowing Club), ?,. Won easily by a couple of lengths. Time, llmin 52 2-ss.

Maiden Fours (in association clinkers); Star Boating Clvb —T. Earner (bow), N. L. James (2), F. D. Johnston (3), W. R. C. Oswin (stroke), 1; Union Boating Club (Wanganui), 2; Canterbury Rowing Club, 3. The Stars won by a length. The Nelson crew was fourth. Time, 7m 11 2-ss.

Junior Fours, one mile and a-half'. jKawatiri Rowing Chib (Westport), 1; Union Boating- Club (Wanganui), 2; Canterbury Rowing- Club, 3. The I-vsivatiri crew won easily by nearly four lengths, Canterbury just gaming- third place from the Star crew. Time, 10m 3 4-ss. Champion Pairs Rowing Championship of New Zealand, one mile and a-half: Wellington Rowing | Club—J. P.. Crawford, (bow), A. Galbraith (stroke) —1; Star Boating Club—A, D. Bayfield (bow), R. In the final Humphreys came away easily, and, though Slinrt made a desperate effort in the last few yards, Humphreys stalled him off and won easily. Wanganui Rowing Club and the Aramoho Boating Club also started. The Kawatiri crew, working together beautifully, and showing the benefits of the close training they had undergone, began to draw away after half a mile had been rowed, and by the time the last halfmile was entered upon the result was a foregone conclusion, for the Westport men, comfortably defeating the challenges of both Wellieston and Canterbury, came on .and won. by a little over a length, a fine race for second place resulting in favour of Wellington by a-quarter of. a length- Wanganui was fourth and Aramaho fifth.. Time, 14m. 33 S-ss.

Junior Pairs: Blenheim Rowing Club, 1; Nelson Rowing Club, 2; Aramoho Boating Club 3. Champion Double Sculls Amateur Rowing Championship of New Zealand, one mile ami a-half: Otago Rowing Club—W. H. Priest (bow), J. F. Moßrath (stroke)—l; Wellington Rowing Club—A. Galbraith. (bow), J. R. Crawford (stroke)— 2: Star Boating Club — O. R. Bendall (bow), W. E. Bendall (stroke)— 3. A crew from me Canterbury Rowing Club also started. McGrath and 1 Priest lasted long enough to win by about three-quarters of a length. The Star crew, six lengths away, was third. Time, 13m 14 3-ss.
