THE COMMANDS SETTLED.

WELLINGTON, this day
Lieut.-Colonel Davies has accepted the command of the Eighth Contingent. Captain Bingley, at present Adjutant in Canterbury, is to be the Brigade Major. Captain Matthew.? and Sergeant-Major Rogers are to be staff officers. Captain Barrlett will be in command of the North Island battalion, with Captain Poison as second in command. Major Chaytor will have command of the South Island battalion, with1 Captain Jackson as second in command. CHEISTOHUECH, this day. The announcement that Major Chaytor was to be placed in command of tlie South Island Battalion, with Captain Jackson second, gave, some disappointment, as the latter's general South African experience was considered to give him a prior claim. Captain Bingley has been offered the position of brigade-major.
Captain Colbeek, who is in command of the Otamatea Mounted Rifles, has been appointed as a captain to the Eighth Contingent. Captain Colbeek returned home last evening to make final arrangements be* fore leaving for Wellington.
