The Dowager commanded the Tartan General in Kansu, at the instance of Yuanshikai, the Governor of Chili and the Yangtze Viceroys Linkunyi and Changkhitung, to decapitate Tungfuhsiang before he rebels or involves China with foreigners. The Dowager's influence over the Emperor is still complete. LONDON, January 9.
The publicity of the Court's return to Pekin is regarded as revolutionary in the light of Chinese customs. The Dowager repeatedly acknowledged the salutations of foreigners and afterwards burned incense to her ancestors at the Temple of the Goddess of Mercy.
The British garrison was kept in barracks though the American garrison was allowed to see the spectacle. Two companies ol Chinese cavalry, mounted on Australian horses, participated in the procession.
