Bishop Stone Wigg, the head of the Anglican Mission in New Guinea, is en route for England, with the object of securing funds to establish the bishopric, which has not maintenance after the present year. He says that there is no possibility' o£ the, development of the possession unless a more liberal policy of allowing the people to take tip land be adopted. It is amazinjr tliat Australian people are willing to pay twenty thousand yearly for the maintenance of New
Guinea when a more liberal policy would attract settlers and obviate this payment. Germany has adopted much mo-re practical methods in the development of trade.
was driving twelve hundred of Mr Eiall's~ sheep, was caught by one of the recent bush fires. By galloping he barelj' escaped with his life. Most of the sheep were burned.
