WELLINGTON PRODUCE MARKET
Messrs. George Thomas & Co. report: Lemons —The present cold weather is having a depressing effect upon the demand. Prime Sydneysare worth from 6/ to 7/. common from 4/ to 5/, Messinas in ISO's 8/ to 9/. 300's from 15/ to 10/ per case. Apples: The new season's product is now coming to hand, but the quality is not very satisfactory, owing to their not being well matured. Bushel cases, good dessert, rule from 4/6 to 0/6. J bushel ditto from 2/ to 3/, cooking at 4/ and 2/ respectively. Plums—Supplies are now arriving from all districts in New Zealand, and prices vary according to condition, Japanese being worth 4/ per I case, cherry plums from 3/0 to 3/9, black plums from 4/6 to 5/. So far there is every indication of supplies from Hawke's Bay being exceedingly poor. Nelson prospects are most encouraging1. Strawberries —During this season we have received large supplies, and a consignment landing on New Year's Day realised from 1/9 to 2/ alb., top prices. Prices now are from 1/0 to 1/7 per box. Grapes—Owing to the smallness of supplies prices have revived somewhat, and values at our sale yesterday ruled from 1/6 to 1/7 per lb for Auckland hot-house grown. New Potatoes —Since the passing of the holidays the market for this line lias quite collapsed, and supplies unfortunately have still continued to reach our market in greater volume. To-day it is impossible to sell Auck-land-grown Kidneys at over 4/ per cwt. Tomatoes—Large supplies are nowreaching us almost daily from Auckland and Nelson, and prices have fallen considerably. Best in 24 and 251b cases are worth an average of 7/ per box. Onions —Large supplies are to hand. Aucklands, £5 per ton.
