THE MODEL YACHT RACE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—lt is witli regret I learn that the model yacht race included in the programme of the annual regatta is to be restricted to boats built of N.Z. woods. I think it is to the interests of the sport to leave choice of materials to the various competitors, the only restriction being one barring professional built boats from competing; yet even that restriction might be removed. If the committee cannot possibly see their way to leave the choice of materials to those making models, might I ask if it is possible to put a race On for allcomers, of course excluding professionally built boats, for there are those who have built models from cedar and teak who will be debarred from competing if the original suggestion is carried out. , In conclusion might I just put it in this way. Large yachts built of foreign woods and by foreign builders are welcomed to race, and I think if there was any likelihood of any coming here for our regatta special inducements would be held out for them. Again, steel yachts are allowed to race against wooden ones, yet the same committee who allows this say we won't let the same thing apply to models, and I don't know for what reason it is so, unless it is intended as a throwback to or against N.Z. woods. —I am, etc.,
MODEL,
