HEALTH HINTS.
WHY COLD WATER BATHING IS
INJURIOUS
There would appear not to be unanimity upon the cold water strengthening theory. The below is the opinion of T. V. Clifford. M.D., expressed in his article on Life Science in the July issue of "Hygeio Therapy": — "Stimulation, which is an abnormal using up of reserve strength, by whatever means produced, is deceptive, and is an expressed abnormal life, always in the end shortening life's possibilities. The habit many have of coJd water bathing is only a form of stimulation. The cold being inimical to life the vital energies are aroused by its presence to an action of defence, and the person feels invigorated as the result, and he reasons, just as one does from any stimulant, that it is good for him. He reasons thus because he feels better, but it is deceptive; it is borrowing force with usury. Only such substances and influence should be used, and these only to such an extent, as will cause normal expression of the functions of the organs of the body:"'
