THE ADJOURNMENT

WELLINGTON, Friday

When the House resumed a message was read from His Excellency the Governor announcing the Acts which had received the Royal assent. The New Zealand Ensign Bill was reserved for the Hoyal assent. The City of Auckland Loans Consolidation' Act, Maori Councils Amendment Act, Maori Lands Administration Act, and the "Washing-up Bill" had been assented to.

On the motion that the House do now adjourn ,Mr It. McKenzie (Motueka) desired to make a statement, but was ruled out of order.

The usual final sessional division on the question of adjournment resulted: Ayes 24, Noes 14.

The Deputy-Speaker, Mr Guinness, •said before leaving- the chair be asked the indulg-en.ee of the House for one moment. He desired in the first place to . thank the premier for his courtesy, and for the kindly remarks he made about the onerousne.?s of the position. He regretted with, he felt sure, every member of the House, that the Speaker (Sir Maurice O'Rorke) was not present. Before leaving- the chair he wished to thank hon. members for the great consideration and uniform courtesy with which they had assisted him during- the time he had occupied the chair. He wished hon. members health during- the recess, and hoped they would all meet again to perform the duties of the nest year as they had in the past. His sincere thanks were also due to the officers of the House for the able and valuable assistance they had given him during the session jiist closed.

The Hon. Major Steward tendered his acknowledgments to the Government and the House for their assistance, and for such kindly remarks as to the services he had been able to render as Acting-Chairman of Com-

mittees,

The House then adjourned until next sitting day.
