HAMILTON, this day, HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Waikato Hospital Board met yesterday, when It was decided to support the Napier Board in its endeavour to have a cancer hospital established in one of the big centres of the colony. The Board agreed to adopt the ticket system in vogue in various parts of the colony, by which everyone who subscribes £1 a year will be entitled to a year's treatment free. The Board thought the system would be advantageous, more especially for the King Country and Rotorua districts, as patients from these places have' at present to be treated free of ohargo. It was resolved to appoint a Maorispeaking nurse when the first vacanoy occurred on the staff. It was reported that there were 22 patients in the hospital Including* One case of typhoid from Botorua. An offer from Bevln's freezing works to supply 281bs of Ice dally free of charge was gratefully accepted. The Board intends to approach the Railway Department to carry It gratis. WAIKATO GUN CLUB. ' The Waikato Gun Club fired a series of matches at Frankton yesterday, resulting as follows: — 10-bird sweepstake, R. J. Gwynne; 10-bird handicap sweepstake, T. F. Jolly and Claude Newell divided; fivebird scratch sweepstake, H. Rowland. At a meeting held subsequently it was decided to enter a" team for the Balllstite Cup at Epsom on the ISth November, and to challenge the No. 1 Company Waikato Mounted Rifles to a match with inanimate birds on 9th November, also to send a team to Cambridge. The following were selected to represent the club for the BalUstito Cup:—Dobson, Barker, Rowland, Seccomber, F. Jolly, Holthy; emergency, Gwynne. It was agreed to enter teams for the "Herald" and Ammunition Company's trophies and open handicap.
BOWLING SEASON. The bowling season was opened at Hamilton yesterday, a large number betng present on Taylor's green. Steps are about to be taken to form a club In the township of Morrinsville. FLAXMILL BURNT. I. Cout's flaxmlll was totally destroyed by fire. There was no Insurance. At a meeting of milk suppliers to the various creameries near Hamilton, Mr C. Blackett was nominated as director of the Dairy Association. At a meeting of the executive of the W.A. and P. Association yesterday, the president presented a report of the late show, which suggested several Improvements In the conduct of s-howe. Bati_faotion was expressed at the railway arrangements, more eapeolally at the Innovation of separating stock and passenger traffic. It was reported that £124 was taken at the gates, aa against £100 last year. A donation received from Mr MoHardy, Palmerston North, £6 ./, was devoted to yearling shorthorn olasses, and £2 2/ from Mr Northoroft, Waltun*. for the two-y*ai-©ld draught filly clars.
