GREY LYNN BOROUGH.

The fortnightly meeting of the Grey Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Messrs. J. Farrell, li. White, 11. Hall, .). Kosser, A. J. Parker, J. Booth and C. "McMaster. Senior Councillor Donald conducted the business of the meeting in the absence of the .Mayor. Mr. It. T. Warnoek. who is in Wellington.

Abattoirs.—The secretary of the Department of Agriculture wrote asking the Council to forward him copies of then- by-laws relating to the payment of fees by licensees for slaughtering houses in the district, adding- that as officers of the Department now inspected these buildings. these by-laws would be rescinded. — The request was acceded to. Borrowing1.—The Municipal Council of Invereargill forwarded a resolu- j tion recently passed by that body urging the Government to legislate in the direction of permitting money to be borrowed at as low rate of interest as possible, and loaned to local bodies at a rate not exceeding ?,\ petcent, per annum.—The Council agreed to the suggestion. Greater Auckland.—Mr. H. Wilson, City Town Clerk, forwarded a copy of a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Auckland City Council, favouring the amalgamation of the suburban boroughs.—lt was decided, on the motion of Cr. McMaster, to defer the consideration until the return of the Mayor. Borough Statistics.—A communication was received from the City Town Clerk enquiring the population, rating capacity, etc., of the Borough. It was decided to supply the required information. Electric Tramways.—The following resolution, moved by Cr. Donald, was agreed to: "That the Streets Committee be empowered to interview the engineer, of the Electric Tramways with a view to arriving at the permanent levels for the Great North Road, and that the Arch Hill Road Board be invited to take part in the interview; the Town Clerk to make the necessary arrangements, and to request the attendance of Mr. Metcalfe, C.E.." ■ Crummer Road.—Mr. J. Parker wrote asking the Council to consider the advisability of improving the present condition of the road, and offered to contribute towards the cost of the same.—Referred to Streets Committee.

New Lamp. —The residents of Murdoch and Millais streets petitioned for a new lamp at the corner of said streets. —Petition deferred.

Cox's Creek. —The Minister of Lands wrote in reply to a letter from the Council asking for that portion of Cox's Creek above the embankment and bridge, and stated the chief surveyor had reported this would enclose about 22 acres, but the amount of reclamation required would be about five feet. Should the owners of the land abutting on Cox's Bay give their consent, then the creek might be proclaimed a recreation reserve; and vested either in the Council or the Auckland City Council, but in the meantime the Government could do nothing in the. matter.—The communication was received.

Accounts.—The sum of £39 13/5 was passed for the payment 3of accounts.
