NOUMEA, July 28

The barque Alexa has been totally wrecked while loading guano at Surprise Island. The crew and passengers have arrived at Pana safely.

[The Alexa, owned by Mr Walter S. Waterston, of Invercargill, was an iron vessel, built at Durham, England, in 1878, and purchased by Mr Waterston in 1889 for the intercolonial trade. Her tonnage was 425.
