NEW ZEALAND BOWLERS UP NORTH.

The New Zealand bowlers fared ill In their matches* in the neighbourhood of Glasgow. The BroombiH Club defeated the Antipodeans by 45 »to 28; Willowbank whacked them by 49 to 37, and last Friday Welcroft defeated the Antipodeans by 44 to 33. Then Mr Paul's men took on Queen's !Park to wind up the week, and were well thrashed by 52 points to 27. But Queen's Park are a particularly warm lot of bowlers, and the keenness of the turf put the visitors off itheir game a little. Their displays i .though resulting in defeats have, it I .would seem, earned them the respect | of Glasgow bowlers for a local paper! says concerning their play : "Our home turf being quite different from that which they are accustomed to rather upset their calculations, but istill the players—notably one of the skips, Mr Paul—displayed marked and ability in drawing to rthe jack, and also in building the heads and directing the players. The "New Zedders" play the Scottish style and with Scottish bowls. They etep naturally off the mat and give ithe bowls that graceful swing which enables them to take the turf sweet-: ly, and to take what bowlers know as the proper green. If anything, their ,bias is rather wider than our present standard, Mr Paul taking a draw of irom 3J to 4 yards. Compared with the company of Australians who ■visited the city two years ago, the "New Zedders" are superior players, and will after a little experience of our home greens be difficult to defeat."

The players for the Glasgow games ■were Messrs Morey, Bennie, Dingle and Paul (skip), and Messrs Reich, Eoskrude, Clark and Ballanger (skip). Needless to say, perhaps,' the Antipodeans have been warmly received by the men over the border, and are having a royal time apart from the games they play.

On Monday, Mr Paul and his merry men met Pollakshans in a two rink match. The green was in grand order, and a most exciting game ended in a narrow victory for the .visitors by one shot. Mr Ballinger's quartette only scored 14 against their opponents 27, but Mr Paul's lot achieved 26 against their opponents 12, so the ultimate score 'was 40 to 39 an the New Zealanders favour.
