Colonel Benson, on the 9th, forestalled Commandant Viljoen at Witoort Bridge, commanding Dulljtroom, north of Delagoa railway. The Boers, who were not aware that the bridge was held, encountered a brisk fire and fell back in confusion.
A hundred Boers, who were in reserve, attempted to prevent pursuit, hut were routed.
Viljoen abandoned 10 waggons. Colonel Benson, following uninterruptedly for 25 miles, compelled the Boers to light an action at Olifant's (River, killing six and wounding five o f the enemy. The British casualties were few. ffhe Scottish Horse distinguished (themselves in the fighting.
The "Standard's" Pretoria correspondent states that Colonels Benson, Beatson, Spen and Parks' four columns in the Vicinity of Dullstroom awaited Ben Viljoen's commando of 600 from Khenosterkop going to Nels.pruit, further east on the railway. Viljoen was not. aware that his adduce was blocked. A battle was {ought on the 7tih, the enemy suffering heavy loss.
