CHELMSFORD.

The directors of the Chelmsford Gold Mining Company have invited tenders for the extension of the water race, so as to provide ample water power for crushing purposes. Hitherto 1 he battery has not been able to run full time for want of water, but the extension when completed will enable crushing1 to be carried on continuously throughout the summer. It is estimated that the cost of the proposed extension will not be more than from £80 to £100. TANIWHA SYNDICATE.

Messrs Joshua Jackson and Ashton have returned from their visit of inspection to the property of the Taniwlra Syndicate at Upper Tairua. Tn conversation, Mr Jackson stated that there is what he considers a very good surface show. As the outcome of the prospecting- work done, a reef system has been discovered, comprisingl leads from 4 to 5 inches in width, each with well defined walls. These leads appear as if they will come together at a depth, and in order to prove this a drive will be put in some 60 feet below which should intersect the leads at 100 feet in. Some of the veins are 10 inches and up to nearly 18, and are all within 15 feet, separated by country rock. Already some three to four ewt. of picked ore have been secured from the surface works, and more should be obtained in the open cut now being done. There is also another reef called No. 1, which is 30 feet away from the leads referred to, and striking1 in an opposite direction. This reef is fully 2 feet wide, and carries good ore. Mr Jackson brought back to town with him some pieces of stone which show gold very freely. PRIDE OF WAIHI. Instructions have been given to the manager of the Pride of Waihi Company to cany on preliminary work, prpnaratory tn starting sinking1 the «ha*t. A blacksmith's shop and smithy are also being built. i'he exact spot for putting down the shaft has not yet been fixed upon. At Waihi it has been suggested that the shaft should be sunk where there is a large outcrop of quartz near the Waihi Extended boundary. TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. The Talisman Consolidated Company's fine new 50 stamper mill at Karangahake will now soon be ready to commence permanent crushing operations. Preliminary runs have already been made with some of the machinery with satisfactory results, everything working smoothly. In about a fortnight's time it is expected the rock breakers will be at work. In addition to the new 50 stampers, the company has also the Talisman battery of 25 stampers. ROYAL OAK. Owing to a premature drive of logs on the Waikoromiko Creek, the first two chains of the Royal Oak Company's water race were carried away, consequently the battery is stopped, pending repairs. There are 70 tons of ore awaiting treatment. Prior to this 62 tons or ore and 401bs of picked stone were treated for a return of £217 15/6.
