In the Senate Mr. Best, of Victoria, was elected Chairman of Committees.

The House adopted a motion in favour of making' provision in Government contracts for the payment of a minimum rate of wages, and the fixing- of maximum hours of labour, the wages to be in accordance with the rates ruling in the district, and stating that the Commonwealth Parliament accepts full powers to make laws for Australia as to wages and hours and condition of labour.

The House carried a motion in favour of the establishment of a National Department of Agriculture on American lines.
