ROYAL RECEPTION EXPENSES.

At the meeting of the City Council last evening, the Finance Committee submitted the following recommendation in regard to the communication from the Royal Reception Committee, asking for the Council's contribution to the expenses of the reception: "That a progress payment of £400 be made, and detailed accounts submitted to the Council before the final payment is made." This recommendation was adopted by the Council.'

Miss Inglesby, lady missionary in connection with the Zenana mission work in India engaged in by the New Zealand Baptists, was a passenger today by the Waihora from the South en route to Sydney by Monday's steamer. Miss Inglesby was met by Rev. A. H. Collins, president of the New.Zealand Baptist Missionary Society, and Mr. W. P. Baker, president Auckland Auxiliary. Miss Inglesby will speak on Sunday next at Mount Eden and Ponsonby Baptist churches (as advertised).

Those who had the good fortune to be present at the. grand patriotic ball given a year ago by the Ladies' Committee of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children, etc., will be pleased to learn that the same ladies are arranging for another grand ball on the same behalf on August 1, in the Choral Hall.

A return of the annual cost of the Wellington Technical School was laid before the Teachers' Salaries Commission yesterday. This showed that last year the expenditure on general account was £1627, the total for ten years being £9586, while on buildings £4638 was spent. The fees received during the ten years amounted to £8676, and the Government subsidy amounted to £2395.
