In n.nnection with the voyage of the exploring ship Discovery in the Antarctic it is stated that Mr George Murray, director and scientist to the expedition, does' not proceed beyond Melbourne.. Mr Murray and Captain Scott will there appoint the principal members of the staff to conduct the scientific work, on Murray lines, Mr Murray afterwards editing. The commander has been instructed to explore the Ross lee Barrier with a view to the discovery of land which is believed to Hank Hie Harrier to the eastward, aud solve physical geographical questions relating* to ice r.niuttion. C.ip.ai_i Scott has discretionary power either to winter on the ice or land a party between Capes Johnson and Crozier, after consulting the director as to a suitable spot.
