The children's demonstration was' a magnificent spectacle. Some SGOOi school children, private and public,! were grouped on stands around Victoria Square, only children above the third standard being1 present. They, represented SO Canterbury schools. ] The chairman of the committee wns^ responsible for the success of the; gathering. with floating toi toi seed, resembling a snow storm, and sprinkling1 everybody with fluff. The children sang the National Anthem as the Duke and Duchess drove up. Lord Ranurly, Lady Ranfurly, Ministers, and Mayor and Mrs Rhodes were present on the dais. A dozen children from school were present on the platform, dre.^cd in white, with blue and red .sashes.

The Duchess nsked as the carriag' drove up: "Have we to get out V"

Lord flanfurly and the Right lion. Mr Keddon spoke to Their Royal Highnesses, who remained in the carriage. Four of the selected j,rirls approached the carriage, and Miss Ida Alary Recce presented ;t bouquet. She was accompanied by Misses Lucy Hatch, Madge O'Ma'lley, Gladys Walker, and Mrs Rhodes. After a shore ceremony Their Highnesses drove o amid cheers.
