SUDDEN DEATH.

Mr Joseph Pacie of this city, died very suddenly in the ,terry steamer Britannia last night. Soon after the steamer left the wharf at. half past nine, Mr Pacie, while putting- on his overcoat, fell back on the seat, as ihoug-h in a faint. Several passengers went to his aid, but all restorative efforts were unavailing, and It was seen that he was dead. Mr Tye, master of the steamer, reported the "death to Constable Matthews, and the body was examined by Dr. Girdler, and life being- pronounced extinct the body was taken to the morgue.

An inquest on the body of Mr Pacie takes place at the Criterion Hotel at 4 p.m. to-day, before Mr Gresham, Coroner. Deceased, who resided in Mount Rosklll, has relatives in that district. He lived in Auckland for many years, going to Australia and then to' the Transvaal some years ago in connection with mining matters.
