NORTH SHORE DEFEAT PARNELL.

This match was played at North Shore, and resulted after a rather uninteresting game in a win for North Shore by 6 points to nil. Mr lilakey was entrusted with the whistle.

North Shore won the toss and elected to kick down the field. Early in the game Parnell carried the ball up the field, but were repulsed by the Shore, who were awarded a free kick, which they followed up by a fine passing rush that placed Parnell's line in danger. The line was temporarily relieved by the ball finding the touch line from a kick by Gillard. The game remained for some minutes at midfield, until the Parnell forwards inaugurated an aggressive movement and reached Shore's 25 flag, where Stone failed to land a goal from a free kick. The play remained very even, but Shore were gradually improving their position when half time was called. No score had been recorded by either team. After the kick off a neat piece of passing between Tvviname, Stone and Irwin°was checked by Robb, and the leather was transferred to Parnell's territory. Here Corner made an effort to break through, but Lovvrie secured the ball and relieved by finding the touch line. Shore came on. again, and Corner, after picking up the oval from a loose scrum, made a dodgy run past the backs and scored the first try. In taking the kick he made a fine attempt, but the ball struck the cross bar. (Shore 3, Parnell 0.) After this the game livened up a bit. Parnell were compelled to force, but soon after invaded Shore's ground, and almost got over the line. Weatherell, however, kicked too hard, and Shore forced. In the ensuin|g play Shore resumed the aggresssive, and Frankham, after a neat run, transferred to Smith, who got over the line near the corner. Corner failed to convert. (Shore 6, Parnell 0.) The game concluded a minute or two later without further score.

NOTES

The play throughout the first spell was very even, neither side having any definite advantage. In the second half matters livened up a little, and some good play was seen. Corner, at Shore's five-eighths, played a brilliant and consistent game throughout. His tackling and kicking were good, and the way in which he forced his way through theopposing forwards earned him a good deal of applause from the spectators. The Shore undoubtedly owed their victory in a large measure to the efforts of this plucky little Oliver. The forwards on both sides, though including a number of juniors, played a good game. The Shore team was considerably weakened by the absence of several heavy forwards, or the victory might possisbly have beeu more decisive. Kobb, as full back, performed his duty well, and saved more than one possible score. Of the threequarters,. Wynyard was perhaps the most conspicuous, though none of them were brilliant. Gillard, the Parnell full back, though not quite as good as usual, made no serious mistakes. Twmame at five-eighths put in plenty of hard work.

Stone and Lowrie worked consistently together, and got in some neat passing. Stone's kicking on Saturday was rather disappointing after the good displays he has shown on former occasions.

Crisp, Handeock and Hodgson proved useful in the forwards, while Pickmere, a junior, showed a fair turn of speed, and seems likely to uphold the reputation he gained at the Grammar School.

Weatherilt, one of 'Farac.fs threequarters, played a very weak game, and was the unlucky recipient of a good deal of unfavourable criticism, by the onlookers.
