There is a scarcity of prime quality mutton, and there has been more inclination to purchase mutton during the past week, but there has been dull sale for heavy carcases, New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, 5Jd; brands other than Canterbury, sjjd; lamb market very firm. Beef: N.Z. hinds, 3|d; fores, 2£d; market very dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. The hemp market is steady; no change since last week, Cocksfoot is firm, but buyers are not keen to do business, waiting reliable news as to the probable return from the American crop.
