ARRIVAL IN CANTERBURY.

LYTTELTON, this day. Heavy rain fell during the night, culminating in ii downpour this mdrning. At 8 o'clock, however, the clouds broke, and the blue sky appeared. The decorations presented a sodden appearance. The streets are festooned with colour, garlanded with greenery, and gay with bunting. The city is crowded with visiiors.

The Ophir came alongside the wharf at at 9,15. There was then a cloudless sky. The great Ship made a magnificent spectacle, and steamed to her position with splendid ease.

The Duke and Duchess disembarked at 11.3.1 at Lyttelton, and were received by the Governor, the Premier, .Sir JoKeph Ward, the Mayor of Lytt >)- ton, and Mr Way mouth, the Chairman of the Harbour Board. Miss Waymouili presented a bouquet to the Duchess. ;
