KAURI GUM MARKET.
AUCKLAND, Wednesday,
The kauri gum market shows little change in last week's position, the market being still fairly active for better gTades. At the London sales last week about half the quantity of gum offered was sold. Supplies for the month of May total 624 tons, and exports 384 tons. -The Charles G. Rice is loaded, but her exports will come in next month. The Delphic has taken on board about 200 tons of gum for London and New York. Although supplies are now coming back to more moderate amounts, yet the total for the first five months of this year was 3195 tons, equal to a yearly average of 7680 tons, which is fully equal to all requirements, and if, owing to supplies having come back to a normal condition, sellers try further to force up prices, it will have the effect of further driving consumers to Manila. It must be borne in mind that prices are now 40 per cent, higher than the average for all the previous history of the guru trade. Quotations are: Poor ordinary ; £35 to £42 Fair ordinary £45 to £50 Good ordinary £52 to £62 Superior ordinary £70 to £80 ! East Coast £75 upwards
