FIRE.

' 'A thirtcen-roomed house on the corner of Park and Seafield View Roads, owned by Mr Morgan Blamford, was completely destroyed by fire at noon to-day. Mr Blamford was in town this morningl, and Mrs and Miss Blamford Ma mother and sister, left the house at 11.30 a.m., to ,go over to North Shore, the house being1 locked up. ■About a quarter of an hour after thendeparture the occupiers of a house on [the other side of the road saw smoke issuing- from one of the upstairs windows. They at once gave the alarm, and the Eden Terrace Fire Brigade ■were soon on the scene. The building being of wood, the fire spread very rapidly, and by the time the Brigade had reached the scene had so strong- a iliold that their efforts to subdue it were fruitless, nor could they enter the house to remove any of the furniture, and the fire practically burned itself out. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery, but it seems to have broken out in the middle of the house, •where there are two fireplaces. The house was insured for £450 in the Royal Insurance Company, the furniture, none of which was saved, being covered by a policy of £300 in the same office. There was a risk of £75 on the stable, but this was not damaged. The insurances will not nearly cover the total losss.
