PRESENT FOR THE DUCHESS.

There was a great crowd around the window of Mr A. Kohu, jeweller, to view the very handsome casket'which forms the presentation to Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall and York from the women of the province of Auckland. The casket is oi unique character, consisting- of polished N.Z. greenstone mounted in bands of solid gold. The legs are of gold crozier shape interlaced with N.Z. ferns. In the centre of the front panel is a pung'ii fern in pure gold, and at each corner of the panels is a rose in gold. On the cover is a g-old plate with the words:

"Auckland, N.Z.," in raised letters, relieved with ferns. The casket is fined ■with white satin beautifully quilted Inside the top cover is a g-old plate bearing- the following- inscription: — "From many loya.l women of the Province of Auckland." The casket is enclosed in a folding- case covered with purple leather, the clasps being- of gold, while on the outside of the case is the monogram of Her Royal Highness, surmounted by a ducal crown in gold. The manufacturing erf the casket reflects the greatest credit on Mr A. Kohn, who has carried out the work in a most satisfactory manner. The following are the Ladies' Committee connected with the presentation: — Chairwoman, Mrs James Oulpan; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs T. S. Lawry; committee, Mesdames Colder, Witheford, Xapier, Fowlds, Hudson Williamson, Alison, Rattray, Archdale Tayler, E. D. Ash ton, Ergon, Morirzson, Misses Culpan, Cameron, and Eileen Lewis.
