PARNELL.
The annual meeting of the Parnell Licensing- Committee was held today, Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., presiding. The other members of the Bench present were: Messrs. A Wright, J. McCabe, McColl and Edgerley.
The following renewals of hotel licenses were granted: Joseph Parkes Carlton Club Hotel; Maria Ballin,' Eden Vine Hotel; Frederick Tomlinson, Exchange Hotel; John Gillander, Newmarket Hotel; Albert A. Stewart Windsor Castle Hotel. The following new applications for old houses were granted: J. D. McCathie, Alexandra Hotel; Frances Hamilton, Captain Cook Hotel; Christopher Leeth, Royal George Hotel. The Bench granted the transfer of the Royal George Hotel from Patrick Young- to Christopher Leeth.
Some discussion took place on the subject of fire escapes, Mr. McColl contending thai the present (iro.-^----cape appliances in general use in hotels were not adequate. It needed v sailor, almost, to make use of the present means of fire escapes. It was agreed, on the suggestion of Mr. Brabant, that the four members of the committee present should make an inspection of all the hotels in order to obtain information on the subject, with a view to seeing what improvement could be effected. The meeting was then adjourned for a fortnight,
